The tourist industry in the province of ALICANTE has received nearly 9 million euros in direct aid from the Generalitat to mitigate the effects of Covid-19.

This is more than what the province of Valencia or Castellon has received, underlined Herick Campos, Director General of Tourism of the Valencian Community.

Speaking in Javea, Campos revealed that the regional government has processed more than 1,500 Alicante claims. “We were the first to provide direct aid and the first to pay for it,” added the CEO.

The payments included € 274,000 for Javea, Campos said, in a meeting to discuss tourism issues with local mayor Jose Chulvi and other councilors. These inevitably included Javea’s future share in EU Next Generation funds.

“The meeting was very positive,” Campos said afterwards. “The Tourism Department and the Municipality of Javea will work together to advance the Municipality’s sustainable tourist destination plan. “

The general manager commented that Javea was already a sustainable destination anyway.

“This plan will shape and strengthen the municipality, promoting new projects of accessibility, innovation and tourism intelligence,” he added.

After the Javea meeting, Campos traveled to Alcoy where he congratulated the mayor and the town hall team for obtaining the official status of the Integrated System for the Quality of Spanish Tourism (Sicted).
