The InterNations Expat Insider survey asked expats in 57 major cities around the world to rate their homes based on several important factors. Expats were asked what they think of their daily expenses and the price of housing.

The second cheapest city in the world for British expats was Ho Chi Minh in southern Vietnam.

The cosmopolitan city is an attractive destination for expats looking to save on the price of real estate.

More than 60 percent of expats thought housing was affordable in Ho Chi Minh, while more than three-quarters said they had more than enough disposable income.

Overall, the Vietnamese city has been ranked as the 6th best expat destination in the world with excellent dining and entertainment options.


However, an expatriate said: “The quality of the environment can be difficult, such as pollution, lack of recycling and noise”.

Ho Chi Minh is classified as a moderately polluted city and can be noisy as it has a population of around nine million.

Vietnam’s largest city, Ho Chi Minh is diverse and multicultural with a rich coffee culture and delicious street food.

The third cheapest city in the world for British expats was the bustling Thai capital of Bangkok.

Bangkok is a top tourist destination, with many Britons choosing to visit the city before vacationing on one of Thailand’s island paradise.

Over 60 percent of expats thought accommodation was cheap in the city, while half of expats found it easy to find.

A British expat said: “Whether you buy or rent, it’s affordable. More than 80% of expats in the city also believed that their disposable income was sufficient.

The city was ranked just outside the top ten cities in the world, ranking 11th on the InterNations Index.

In fourth place was the Mexican capital, Mexico City. Ranked eighth best city in the world by expatriates, more than three quarters are satisfied with their financial situation.

Accommodation was rated as affordable and more than half of expats thought it was easy to find in the city.

Malaga was ranked as the cheapest city for expats in Europe where accommodation was easy to find and inexpensive.
