Gerard Pique’s Kosmos launches new sports venture investment firm, report says

  • Pique’s Kerad Holding will be the sole partner
  • Kosmos launched the player management agency, as well as the acquisition of Copa America and Ligue 1 rights, in 2021

Sports investment firm Kosmos has launched a new company focused on sports projects, according to Palco23.

Kosmos Global Capital, which reportedly commenced operations on the 18and January, with a share capital of €3,000 (US$3,4000), is headquartered in Barcelona. Kerad Holding, the investment company of Spanish star Gerard Pique, will be the sole partner. Piqué, who created Kosmos, is joined by his father Joan as co-administrators.

According to Palco23, Kosmos Global Capital will focus on “the acquisition, possession and administration of all kinds of securities, shares of companies or any other title or sign representing the rights of participation or credit of others companies”.

The launch adds another division to the larger Kosmos organization. Last year, the company launched a player management agency and announced men’s tennis ace Dominic Thiem as its first signing.

The company also secured the broadcast rights in Spain for the 2021 Copa America national football team tournament, which it streamed on Amazon-owned Twitch, in addition to securing the rights in the country for the two first divisions of French football. Both deals were heavily influenced by the presence of Lionel Messi, who won the Copa America with Argentina and plays for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Kosmos is probably best known as the primary funder of the Davis Cup national team tennis tournament. The company’s partnership with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) was announced in 2018 and will see Kosmos inject $3 billion into the event as part of a 25-year deal.
