New UK travel rules throw mid-term holidays into chaos

Tfamily homes are even more disappointed with travel, as new advice against non-essential travel from parts of northern England, the Midlands and London bans mid-term vacations.

Government guidelines now say the public should avoid traveling in and out of areas where the so-called Indian variant is the fastest growing “unless it is essential” – which, of course, is. not.

The new councils cover areas governed by Bedford Borough Council, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, Bolton Metropolitan Council and Burnley Borough Council. Also included are Kirklees Council, Leicester City Council, London Borough of Hounslow and North Tyneside Council.

People living in these areas should ask themselves “whether it is really essential” for them to travel, the Work and Pensions Secretary told ITV’s Good Morning Britain.

Asked whether a Bolton family should cancel plans for a mid-term vacation to a Green List country, Therese Coffey said: “I am not going to give individual travel advice on some hypothetical situations to people in different parts of the country.

“It’s very clear that people have to ask themselves if this is really essential. I am aware that the green list is there […] But I think people just need to carefully consider the risks they face. “
