Holistic social benefits that support an individual’s diverse needs have become essential during COVID-19.

Employees look to their employers for help when dealing with mental health, financial strain and childcare challenges. Indeed, 58% of employers offer their employees welfare benefits, according to data from the Society for Human Resource Management. Eighty-three percent of employers offer mental health coverage and 79% of employers offer EAP.

“People are reconsidering and reassessing their priorities, says Dr. Natalie Baumgartner, Chief Workforce Scientist at Achievers. “They are looking at how their organization supports their well-being and their life balance.

Around 41% of workers say feel exhausted and nearly a quarter report experiencing symptoms of depression as a result of the pandemic, according to data from SHRM.

“Balancing work and personal activities over the past year has been extremely difficult for many employees,” says Pattie Graves, HR SHRM Knowledge Advisor. “Holistic benefits can go a long way towards an employee’s mental health and well-being. Employers can use regular check-ups to assess the needs of their employees and provide benefits that take care of the individual as a whole.
