Spanish companies are eager to participate in the growth of the Azerbaijani economy, the Spanish Foreign Ministry told Trend.

According to the ministry, it is above all Spanish companies involved in the fields of infrastructure, agriculture and energy that could contribute the most.

The ministry noted the particular interest of Spanish companies to further cooperate in the green energy sector with Azerbaijan, as well as to further strengthen the existing partnership in the field of oil and gas, while the current trade deficit between both countries is decreasing, in particular due to Spanish imports of hydrocarbons from Azerbaijan.

Also, in the coming years, Spain intends to increase cooperation with Azerbaijan in the tourism sector, the source said.

“Spain is one of the largest tourist destinations in the world with 84 million visitors in 2019 and this activity represents 12% of our GDP. In this context, and as tourism is one of the options for the diversification of Azerbaijani economy, it could greatly benefit from the experience of Spanish companies, the source added.

As evidenced by the recent visit to Madrid by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, political relations between Spain and Azerbaijan are excellent. This circumstance will pave the way for tapping the full potential of the economic ties between the two countries, the ministry concluded.
